The doctor called today with an update.
Eloira needed to be switched from the traditional breathing machine to something called an Oscillator.
An oscillator is a specialized breathing machine used in the NICU for premature babies with severe respiratory distress.
Unlike standard ventilators that mimic normal breathing, this machine delivers hundreds of tiny, rapid breaths per minute via high-frequency vibrations.
The purpose is to:
- Deliver oxygen
- Remove carbon dioxide
- Protect fragile lungs from damage caused by larger breaths.
This results in a visible “wiggle” or vibration throughout her chest and body.
When I saw her on it… It didn’t look comfortable at all.
Her tiny body is constantly vibrating. Because of this, she has to be given a sedative.
This keeps her still so the machine can work properly, because too much movement can interfere with its function.
Even though I understand why it’s needed…
It’s hard to watch. I hate seeing my baby like that.
I can’t wait for her lungs to develop more, so she won’t need this.
